Maya Jama Returns To The Gentlemen For Season Three Filming

Maya Jama Returns To The Gentlemen
Maya Jama has officially returned to the set of The Gentlemen as production for the third season gets underway. The actress, who is well-known for her role as the glamorous fixer Aisha, recently missed the post-match debrief for the show Uncloaked following her time on Celebrity Traitors. A representative for the Love Island host confirmed that her commitment to the gangster drama was the sole reason for her absence from the debrief session with her fellow cast members.
During the broadcast of Uncloaked, host Ed Gamble informed viewers that Jama was away filming and offered her apologies for not being present. This absence was further clarified by Netflix, which confirmed her return to the Guy Ritchie production. The third season of the series has officially entered production this month, with filming taking place across various locations in the United Kingdom and Morocco. The upcoming storyline is expected to expand the narrative, focusing on the construction of a casino in the Middle East. Jama, who made a brief appearance in the second season, is now returning to her role as the fixer.
Transition From Celebrity Traitors
Jama’s return to the drama follows a high-profile run on Celebrity Traitors, where she distinguished herself as the only original Traitor to reach the final episode. Despite her strategic play, her journey in the competition ended when fellow contestant Kenny decided to vote for her banishment. This decision prevented a tie in the poll with Romesh Ranganathan, who eventually won the game alongside Sebastian Croft. The 32-year-old actress was ousted during the thrilling finale episode that aired on the BBC.
Reflecting on the betrayal, Jama noted that she expected the outcome, acknowledging that Kenny was more trusted by the group at that time. She expressed that it would have been selfish to expect him to save her when the momentum of the game was not in her favor. She also commented on the rapid collapse of the turret group, which had seemed impenetrable leading into the final week. Jama attributed the downfall to a combination of factors, including James Acaster’s reluctance to lie and her own efforts to maintain a positive atmosphere, suggesting that a more aggressive approach might have altered the result. She also noted that if Kenny had known Leigh-Anne Pinnock would vote for Romesh, he might have changed his decision.
Expanding The World Of The Gentlemen
As the series moves into its third outing, it builds upon the lavish foundations established in previous seasons. The show is renowned for its blend of crime, comedy, and conspicuous wealth, often utilizing grand locations to emphasize the clash between aristocratic privilege and the gritty reality of the criminal underworld. In the second season, the production expanded its scope from the English countryside to the shores of Lake Maggiore in Italy, utilizing lakeside villas to add a layer of international glamour to the expanding empire of Eddie and Susie. This included the use of Villa Rusconi-Clerici in Verbania, where a temporary pier was even constructed for filming purposes.
Previous filming locations have played a crucial role in defining the series’ aesthetic. The fictional Halstead Manor was brought to life using three different estates, including the Grade I-listed Badminton House in Gloucestershire, Loseley Park in Surrey, and the Ashcombe Estate in Wiltshire. The Ashcombe Estate holds particular significance as it is the home of the series’ creator and director, Guy Ritchie. Additionally, Compton Abbas Airfield in Dorset served as a key backdrop for scenes involving aircraft, highlighting the operational scale of the characters’ enterprises. Daniel Ings, who plays Freddy Horniman, previously noted that these locations act as characters themselves, helping to capture the essence of aristocracy.
By moving production to Morocco and the UK for the third season, the series continues to use its settings as characters in their own right. The introduction of a Middle Eastern casino plot promises to further elevate the scale of the production, maintaining the high standards of visual opulence that have become a hallmark of the series. Maya Jama’s return as Aisha will be a key component of this new chapter as the story continues to unfold.
